General Airport Information
Vienna International Airport (VIE) is Austria's largest and busiest airport, located in Schwechat, about 18 km southeast of the Vienna city centre. It serves as the country's principal international gateway and the main hub of Austrian Airlines. Before you pack, see our baggage allowance checker for what your airline and fare include. Handling around 30 million passengers a year, with modern infrastructure, efficient operations, and ongoing expansion, VIE is one of the key aviation hubs in Central Europe. The airport operates as a single connected complex, divided into several check-in areas and gate piers.
Terminals
- Terminal 3 (Check-in 3): The newest and largest part of the airport, home to Austrian Airlines and its Star Alliance partners, feeding the modern gate piers F and G.
- Terminals 1 & 1A: The original main terminal areas, serving a broad mix of European and low-cost carriers, with access to gate piers B, C and D.
- Terminal 2: A smaller connected check-in area next to Terminal 1, used for additional check-in capacity and general aviation.
Hotels
- NH Vienna Airport: A 4-star property connected directly to the terminal by a covered walkway. Facilities include conference rooms, a fitness area, and an international restaurant.
- Moxy Vienna Airport: A modern hotel a short walk from the terminal, featuring contemporary rooms, a lively bar-lounge, and quick access to check-in.
- Nearby Options: A wide range of accommodations can also be found close to the airport in Schwechat or in Vienna city centre, accessible by train or taxi.
Parking
With thousands of parking spaces, VIE offers reliable and secure parking directly at the terminals, along with economical long-term Parking C and Parking D served by a free shuttle bus:
- Short- and long-term car parks and garages
- Specially marked spots for passengers with reduced mobility
- Family parking zones
- Electric vehicle charging stations
- Convenient baggage cart stations
Parking fees are competitive, and reservations can often be made online for better rates.
Layovers at Vienna International Airport
Whether short or long, a layover at VIE can be surprisingly pleasant. The airport provides a wide range of shops, duty-free stores, restaurants, and lounges to help you pass the time. For longer stopovers, consider taking a quick trip into central Vienna — the City Airport Train (CAT) reaches Wien Mitte in about 16 minutes, making it easy to enjoy a taste of the Austrian capital before your next flight.
