Where to Eat at Vienna International Airport (VIE)
Vienna Airport is a compact building, so nothing is far from anything – but the useful split is landside (before security, open to anyone including people seeing you off) and airside (after security, boarding pass required). The landside options at the Plaza and in the arrivals area are genuinely open to the public, which makes VIE a reasonable meeting point rather than just a departure hall. Details below are current for July 2026; the official restaurant directory is the binding source for hours.

Quick and landside: the Plaza
Before security you will find Air Cafe, Anker and Brezel Meister, which between them cover the Viennese snack repertoire – coffee, pastries, filled rolls, pretzels. Anker is a genuine Austrian bakery chain rather than an airport concession, so the pastries are the same ones Vienna eats.
Because this area is landside, it also works for anyone meeting an arriving passenger. If you are waiting on a delayed flight, the live board on our Vienna Airport arrivals page is more accurate than guessing, and the Plaza is a two-minute walk from the arrivals exit.
Eating early, eating late
VIE's departure peak starts around 05:30, and the food outlets follow the flights rather than the clock: the duty free and catering units at the Plaza start opening from about 04:30–05:00, so a 06:00 departure will find coffee, though not everything. Late in the evening the airside offer thins out as the last Schengen waves leave, and after that McDonald's in Terminal 3 is the 24-hour fallback.

Actual Viennese food, not airport food
If this is your last chance at Austrian cooking, the things worth ordering are the ones that do not survive export: Wiener Schnitzel (veal, pounded thin, served with lemon – the Skyline is the sit-down option), Brettljause, the Austrian charcuterie and cheese board, at Take Off, and a proper Melange rather than a generic latte at any of the coffee houses. A Käsekrainer from a sausage counter is the honest fast-food answer.
Prices are airport prices. The one genuine saving is that the landside Plaza units are priced closer to the city than the airside gate outlets, so eating before you clear security costs less – and since the security check at VIE now averages about five minutes, spending that time landside is a smaller risk than it used to be.
What is coming in 2027
The Terminal 3 southern expansion adds around 10,000 m² of retail and catering with 30+ new outlets, due in 2027. The announced culinary partners are a serious list by airport standards – DO & CO, Café Landtmann, Figlmüller, Mochi, NENI, Starbucks and Jamie Oliver. Figlmüller and Landtmann in particular are Vienna institutions rather than airport brands, so the offer should improve sharply once it opens.
