Transportation to and from Vienna International Airport (VIE)

Wondering how to reach Vienna International Airport or how to get from the airport to the city? VIE offers a wide range of transfer options to fit every budget and travel style — from taxis and buses to trains, private transfers, and rental cars.

Taxi

Vienna airport taxis are available 24/7 right outside the Arrivals area. They provide door-to-door convenience and comfort, perfect if you prefer a hassle-free ride. The distance to Vienna city center is 18 km (11 miles), and a taxi journey takes about 30 minutes. Estimated fare: around €36 as a flat airport rate (metered fares roughly €40–50). Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Bolt also operate at VIE.

Bus

Vienna AirportLines express coaches connect VIE with major points across the city, including Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz in the centre, Wien Westbahnhof, and Kagran/UNO City. Departures run roughly every 30 minutes through the day and evening. A single AirportLines ticket costs about €11.50 (around €9.50 online). The coaches are comfortable and direct, though for the lowest fare the S-Bahn line S7 into the city (about €4.40) is the cheapest way in, if a little slower than the train express.

Train

Vienna International Airport has its own railway station beneath the terminals, offering express, S-Bahn, and long-distance services. The fastest option is the City Airport Train (CAT), a non-stop express that reaches Wien Mitte in about 16 minutes. A one-way ticket costs about €14 (€12 booked online). The cheaper S-Bahn line S7 also runs to Wien Mitte in about 25 minutes on a VOR ticket (~€4.40), while ÖBB Railjet and REX trains connect the airport to Wien Hauptbahnhof in 15–18 minutes and continue to other Austrian cities.

Private Transfers

If you value comfort and personalized service, book a private airport transfer. A driver will meet you at Arrivals, help with your luggage, and take you directly to your accommodation. Pre-booking ensures a fixed price and peace of mind.

Car Rentals

Car hire at VIE is a great option if you want flexibility and independence during your trip. Multiple car rental agencies are available at the airport, offering vehicles from compact cars to family vans. Tips: Book early for the best rates, check mileage limits, and consider full-to-full fuel policies. Car-sharing services are also available at the airport, making short-term use even more convenient.
